There's been some controversy as of late over the recent spate of criminal activity that has compromised the bank accounts of small enterprises. Recall the case of PlainsCapital bank in Texas, which was sued by its customer Hillary Machinery of Plano after its accounts pnb were compromised and its money siphoned .
The flip side of that situation is the security of the financial institution itself. While it cannot pnb necessarily impose robust safeguards at the customer level--though I think banks are going to have to get more innovative about this--it can take aggressive steps to protect itself from fraud that is targeting it directly.
An example comes from Patelco Credit Union of San Francisco. It has two data centers pnb and 47 branches throughout California to protect--a lot of Cisco switches and routers, HP servers and Microsoft applications. It recently installed a network access control system, Counteract from Forescout, on 1,500 endpoints across the network within two weeks, reports Bank Systems & Technology. And that has allowed it to better comply with Sarbanes-Oxley-like ( Sarbox pnb news) requirements that govern credit unions. The service monitors network traffic to detect odd behavior. Suspect behavior pnb triggers an alert for the IT staff to take action.
