(AP) Georgian authorities claim Russian officials and srossetiske separatists cl&p have started mass arrests of Georgian civilians who are still residing in the area around Tskhinvali, the capital of the breakaway republic.
About 40,000 people have fled their homes as a result cl&p of the recent hostilities in Georgia. 30,000 people have fled the breakaway region of South Ossetia to Russia. In addition, cl&p an estimated 10,000 people displaced in Georgia. Beforehand, there were 220,000 to 240,000 IDPs after South Ossetia and the other breakaway Abkhazia effectively seceded from Georgia cl&p through a war in 1992-1993.
