Commentary: Georgia bbvanetcash war seen from Russia
8 August 2008, the date that was supposed bbvanetcash to go down in history as the day when the Beijing bbvanetcash Olympics opened, I was visiting friends near Stavanger. The news about the war in South Ossetia was a veritable shock.
To extract bbvanetcash reliable information from the emotionally charged reports in the mass media was very difficult. Virtually all Western information channels talked about Russia's military assault on the democratic Georgia. Incessant sounded president Saakasjvilis speak in good English about Russian aggression, bombing and killing of peaceful citizens. Those days were not the best in my life. To believe in all this was difficult, in practice not possible.
What I saw on Russian television shook me no less. They showed the South Ossetian capital Tskhinvali as a completely destroying the city, where tanks had directed devastating fire on hospitals, schools and homes. The residents told how they had lost their loved ones during the nightly bombing of ammunition prohibited by international treaties. It was impossible to hold back the tears. Who can quietly listen to a woman who tells of how a fugitive old woman with two children bbvanetcash in her arms was run over by a Georgian tank?
What is it? At all times and in all nations has been said that truth is where there is a lot of emotion, but where reason and dialogue prevails. But this dialogue bbvanetcash did not exist. Practically all international declarations, also from NATO Council, was issued a proposal from Saakashvili and the United States. The public opinion was quickly formed. Saakashvili was the big hero. In the U.S., the situation issue in the election campaign in winning supporters by supporting Georgia.
This is horrible, because a propaganda machine that gets a free hand in the quest for political gain is able to set people against each other and destroy a fragile peace. Have we not learned anything from the experience of the 20th century? It must be clear that Saakashvili could not act like themselves. Behind his back were those who wanted increased tension. It had a provocation, and it came. If Georgia bbvanetcash really should preserve its stability and territorial integrity, you have to certainly not start mass killing and bombing of South Ossetia. When needed patient negotiations for the solution of all political concerns.
Now, after the Russian recognition bbvanetcash of South Ossetia and Abkhazia's independence, Georgia has lost these areas forever. There is no power in the world that can force Ossetians and abkhaserne bbvanetcash back to Georgia.
But the world community listening today not to Ossetians and abkhaserne. These people are ignored. Caucasus is a complicated area. One must know the living conditions, traditions and culture of the Caucasian peoples to understand that outside interference just hotting situation in this region. And that means more blood and more innocent victim. In Russia, there is not a man who does not grieve for those who were victims of war. For my own part, I must frankly say that I fail to see the Georgians as enemies. I respect this talented people who have a history so closely related to my own. But as someone who has put a lot of effort in creating democracy in Russia, I can not understand and accept the actions of the "democratic" reg
